Special counters and detectors are used for processing banknotes; they can be used not only to count any amount but also to check the authenticity of cash. A special machine for counting money today is found not only in banks but also in stores, offices, and in those enterprises where cash turnover is quite impressive.

What modern currency counters can do

Modern models of modified currency counters in addition to the basic counting function include: additional authenticity detection of various types; the possibility of sorting by denomination, position, and state; recounting in bundles by banknote corners; the ability to choose the start mode – automatic or manual; speed regulation; a special port to connect to a PC and a monitor to ensure viewing by the client; the ability to work independently. In order to ensure the most accurate recount of banknotes using a currency counter, the principle of optical detection is applied. It is used to determine the density of the first bill on the loading hopper, and then all the others are compared with this sample. This is possible thanks to the hardware setting.

At the same time, this principle sometimes fails; the most common problem is “101 banknotes” when worn or soiled banknotes are glued to each other and are counted as a single banknote. To solve this problem, MDD was created, an optical-mechanical counting method that allows for accuracy the first time. Sending cash to a banknote counter, the operator or cashier must not only count it correctly but also verify its authenticity. This can be done using a special currency counter. The main criterion for choosing such equipment is the type of detection.

Ultraviolet detection

Ultraviolet currency detector works based on the use of luminescent dye in the composition and allows you to get a slight glow when exposed to UV light on the bill. No such effect is observed with simple light. UV detection is one of the most common types of verification for authenticity, but at the moment, it tends to be considered unreliable and requires various types of additions. The latter include lenses and magnifiers, additional lamps, and magnifying optics.

Infrared detection

The infrared rays can be used to check the presence of special metameric dyes in a banknote. This method is considered the most reliable because it costs a lot, and counterfeit banknotes with such compositions are practically never met. Naturally, even fraudsters are always improving their activities, and therefore, in addition, each infrared banknote detector includes additional functions of ultraviolet counterparts. In order to provide greater convenience, the results of the test are displayed on a built-in or remote monitor.

Magnetic detection

Another unique solution that makes it possible to identify the ferromagnetic tag used in banknote printing all over the world. It can be located on either side of the banknote in the form of a protective thread. As universal are those detectors, which include several detection options at the same time, they allow the most professional and high-quality control of the authenticity of not only currencies, but also excise, securities, and those documents, which have the protection of authenticity.

Additionally, all banknote authenticity detectors are divided into automatic and viewing ones. Choosing a suitable option among all that range on the market today, you should take into account that such a device will be entrusted with money, and the company’s income will depend, among other things, on how fast and accurate the equipment works.
